Fields of St. Etienne です。
絵画的な草原で美しいカップルが平和を享受していたのに、
突然の戦争で、青年は勇んで戦地に行進していく。
Waving proudly, singing loudly
Being young and foolish ＜若くて、無知だから＞
He was going never knowing
He would not return ＜復路のない行進だということも知らないで＞
あまりにもリアルなこの描写に胸が痛むのは最近の方が多いです。
ISASでのMusical,コマリア版West side Storyでは第6作Darknessの中で
「残されたマリアの哀しみの歌」として私が歌いました。
Mary Hopkin版ではコーラス部分を彼女の夫がハモっています。
